5 Reasons You NEED Home Inspector Insurance - and How to Get it

Not having liability and E&O insurance will cost you—here’s how.

1. Getting home inspector insurance makes you more money.

77% of existing home sales include an inspection. Good news for the home inspection game, and good news for you. You need to be as hirable as possible to take advantage of the market. When you partner with ATI and OREP for a complete insurance package with liability and E and O insurance, you build credibility with clients—and rake in the cash. Homeowners are asking for qualified, insured inspections, and they’re willing to pay big for it.

2. Don’t let home inspector liability cost you. Your clients can sue for errors and omissions — and they will.

If someone has the cash to buy a sell a house, you can bet they’re willing to sue if something goes wrong. On average, home inspectors perform MILLIONS of inspections per year. That’s days of skilled, detail-oriented work—and just one oversight could cost you. You could be held liable for something as little as a generalized report, or for an accidentally dropped vase. These accidents can cost you thousands or more. With ATI and OREP, you protect yourself from E&O and liability. Don’t wait until something goes wrong. Do the smart thing, and get covered now.

3. Pay per inspection coverage doesn’t cut it.

Lots of home inspectors—especially newbies—opt for pay per inspection insurance, thinking they’ve caught a deal. Nope. There’s a reason it’s so cheap: It’s ineffective. You receive minimal coverage, defeating the point of having insurance in the first place. When you’re held liable for an E&O, legal costs add up quick. If you want to sleep at night, you need to get full E&O and liability insurance. Home inspection businesses who skimp on the insurance end up with poor, discredited home inspectors. Don’t let that be you.

4. Home inspector insurance cost is affordable and worthwhile.

Too many home inspectors depend on luck to keep them out of legal trouble. Savvy, smart inspectors know sometimes, things happen. A knocked vase, miscounted shingles, an overlooked dripping pipe—ATI/OREP’s insurance is specifically geared to help you out of these situations.

5. Home inspector insurance is so important, it’s a requirement in 24 states.

Home inspector liability is so widespread, insurance is currently required in nearly half of US states. Know the requirements and get yourself covered before it’s too late. Be a home inspector people actually trust with their money. Make sure to read up on the exact state home inspector requirements for your area.
